Mayor Endorses Republican Candidates For 2023 Berkeley Election

Council President John Bacchione is running for mayor. Tom Grosse, Keith Buscio and Doug Bowens are running for Township Council.

BERKELEY, NJ — Current Mayor Carmen Amato has endorsed the 2023 Berkeley Republican candidates for Mayor and Township Council.

Amato himself received the Ocean County Republican endorsement as he seeks to fill the 9th Legislative District State Senate seat left empty by the retiring Sen. Chris Connors.

"As your candidate for State Senate in the 9th Legislative District, which includes Berkeley Township, I want to express my full support for John Bacchione for Mayor and Tom Grosse, Keith Buscio and Doug Bowens for Council," Amato announced in a news release. "I have worked with these individuals for over 15 years and feel confident in turning over the leadership of Berkeley Township to them."

Amato said that the team would continue the policies that he had implemented in his years as mayor.

"I am steadfast in my support in John Bacchione, Tom Grosse, Keith Buscio and Doug Bowens. Together with Ward Councilpersons they will keep Berkeley Township moving forward and provide the services our residents deserve at a cost they can afford," Amato said.

"Carmen Amato has done a tremendous job of representing the residents of Berkeley Township as our Mayor," Bacchione said.

Bacchione thanked Amato and noted that he would continue to serve Berkeley as State Senator.

"Berkeley will have a dynamic team of Senator Carmen Amato and John Bacchione as Mayor, and Tom Grosse, Keith Buscio and Doug Bowens as Councilmen at Large together with our Ward Councilpersons Sophia Gingrich, Jim Byrnes, Angelo Guadagno and Mike Signorile," he said.
