New Beachwood Mall Site Plans Approved: Here's What's In Store

Changes are in store for the long-vacant site.

BERKELEY, NJ — Changes may finally be coming to the long-vacant Beachwood Mall site as new plans have been approved.

A preliminary major site plan was approved at the January Berkeley Township Planning Board meeting, according to public notice.

The following was approved for the site, according to public notice:

  • One 4,500 square foot retail building pad
  • One 2,340 square foot fast food restaurant with drive-through
  • One 83,000 square foot supermarket
  • One 125,000 square foot retail building
  • One 44,124 square foot retail building

A car wash is going to be constructed on the site, officials have previously said. The fast food restaurant will apparently be a Popeyes, previous reports have said.

The site, in the Town Center Redevelopment Area, has sat vacant for years, serving as an eyesore on the side of Route 9. But making it new and useful again is a priority for the new Mayor John Bacchione.

Plans have varied greatly throughout the years, at one time possibly becoming housing, and another warehouses.
