Official Who Posted Anti-Mexican Comments On Facebook Will Resign

Patrick Pizzi, who serves on the Berkeley Municipal Utilities Authority, has agreed to step down, mayor says

Patrick Pizzi - a Berkeley Township Municipal Utilities Authority Commissioner who posted anti-Mexican remarks on Facebook - will be handing in his resignation soon, Mayor Carmen F. Amato Jr. said.

Pizzi, 68, a Republican-appointed MUA commissioner on the Berkeley Township Municipal Utilities Authority, has said he regrets posting the remarks.

“When I read the Asbury Park Press article, I was shocked,” Amato told Patch. “It’s not in Pat’s nature to make these remarks. I had a conversation with him and told him the comments were in appropriate. He apologized. He feels very badly about it.”

Pizzi was appointed to his position by the Township Council. The council will select a replacement, the mayor said.

Pizzi, will lose his $2,500 and $23,844 in benefits, when he resigns, the mayor said.
