Update: Pedestrian Struck and Killed In South Toms River
Atlantic City Blvd., Route 166 to be shutdown until 8:30 p.m.
A pedestrian from Toms River was struck and killed in South Toms River near South Main Street and Route 166 around 5:50 p.m., South Toms River police confirmed.
The Toms River man, who police described as elderly, was walking on the southbound side of Route 166 when he was struck by a vehicle driven by a 28-year-old Toms River woman, South Toms River Police Detective Tim Meier said.
The vehicle, a four-door sedan, was traveling south on Route 166, police said.

Neither the victim or driver of the vehicle were identified pending notification of family members.
Route 166, which was shutdown in both directions at the accident scene near Mathis Plaza and Planet Fitness, will reopen at approximately 8:30 p.m., police said.

Responding to the scene were South Toms River police, Beachwood police, Toms Riverpolice traffic safety unit, South Toms River first aid, and the Ocean County Sheriff's Criminal Investigations Unit.
South Toms River Patrolman Tom Femiano is the investigating officer along with Officer Dave Margentino of the Toms River fatal accident unit.
