Stop For Pedestrians Or Risk A Summons In Berkeley
Berkeley police have set up enforcement patrols in front of Shop-Rite Plaza on Route 9

A message from the Berkeley Township Police Department:
Police officers will be enforcing pedestrian crossing laws in front of the ShopRite Plaza for the rest of October and all through November, Police Chief Karin T. DiMichele said.
“We are asking the public to stop and wait for people to cross the marked crosswalks on Route 9,“ the chief said. “The goal is to remind pedestrians to cross at designated crosswalks and to remind drivers to always stop for pedestrians in crosswalks.”

Police officers will be handing out brochures on pedestrian safety. Tickets may be issued throughout this operation to offenders.
“This intersection has had numerous injuries to pedestrians and sadly fatalities over the years,“ DiMichele said.
