BERKELEY, NJ — Depending on what town you live in, you may face a tax increase or cut under the 2023 budget for the Central Regional School District.

Business Administrator Kevin O'Shea gave his usual budget presentation at a recent Board of Education meeting.

The $51 million budget was difficult due to rising costs and inflation all over, but maintains all existing programs, O'Shea said.

"Health benefits was a big one this year," O'Shea said, noting that the 15 percent jump in costs for the state plan lead to increases in the budget.

The hiring of an additional police officer is part of the budget, along with a new fire alarm system at the high school and a new middle school PA system.

The budget also includes the new grounds/maintenance building planned.

New windows are also being installed at the high school, which is 95 percent funded by federal Covid funds, O'Shea said.

The Board of Education approved the budget, but Ocean Gate representative John Serpica voted no based on the massive increase to Ocean Gate residents.

The tax impact on municipalities varies based on enrollment and property values, O'Shea said.

Here are the tax breakdowns by municipality:
