Fall is a great time to get outside in New Jersey and take in the rich offering of festivals.

BERKELEY, NJ — Fall is a great time to get outside in New Jersey and take in the rich offering of festivals.
The changing colors of autumn provide a scenic background for fall and harvest festivals, which have contests ranging from apple bobbing and pumpkin carving to lumberjack contests and Halloween parades.
Fall is also the season for corn mazes, pumpkin patches and apple orchard visits.

Here are a few festivals and events in and around Berkeley worth putting on the calendar:
- Downtown Toms River will have its Harvest Arts Festival Oct. 15 on Washington Street, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
- Taste wine from local wineries with the Sip in Autumn fall wine festival at Veterans Park, on Oct. 15 and 16.
- Also on Oct. 15, the Berkeley Township Historical Society celebrates with their Autumn Victorian Tea Party at the Bayville Fire House at 1 p.m.
- Terror in the Halls returns to H&M Potter School from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Oct. 21 and 22.
- On Oct. 22, Faith Community Church in Bayville hosts a Trunk or Treat followed by a campfire with s'mores and storytime.
- On Oct. 23, One Ocean County will hold a fall festival in Common Grounds, its community garden at the John Patrick Sports Complex on Oak Avenue in Lakewood.
- On Oct. 26, cozy up under the stars and enjoy "The Nightmare Before Christmas" at Veterans Park.
- And on Oct. 29, kids up to 8th grade can enjoy the Trick or Trunk at Veterans Park from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.
