Very Rough Surf Conditions, Dangerous Rip Current Risks Still Exist With Post-Tropical Cyclone Hermine

Waves of 10 to 13 feet high are possible, winds increase.

The National Weather Service is calling for partly sunny skies today with a high around 80 degrees. But Post-Tropical Storm Hermine is still drifting northward off the the mid-Atlantic coast.

But north winds will ramp up from 10 to 15 miles per hour this morning 15 to 25 miles per hour this afternoon gusts up to 30 miles per hour.

Waves will be from 10 to 13 miles per hour, with easterly swells of eight to 10 feet. The rip current risk is high. the water temperature is 74 degrees.

"High surf and large swells will produce dangerous, pounding surf and rip current at the beaches," the NWS says. "These rip currents will be life-threatening to anyone who enters the surf. Anyone who visits the beaches should stay out of the surf."

The UV index is a 7. There is no lightning threat today.

High tide at Barnegat Inlet will arrive at 11:06 a.m. Low tide will roll in at 4:59 p.m., followed by another high tide at 5:20 p.m.
