This Weekend: 100-Degree Heat, Heavy Downpours, 'Gusty' Thunderstorms In Ocean

The National Weather Service has issued an alert, saying a strong thunderstorm will be followed by a 100-degree heat index this weekend.

Looks like Sunday is clearly the best day for the beach this weekend.

The National Weather Service says the region could have it’s hottest day of the year on Sunday - following a strong thunderstorm with gusty winds.

The NWS has issued a Hazardous Weather Outlook for the region, saying heavy downpours will arrive on Saturday and Monday, but Sunday will have a 100-degree heat index.

The unstable atmosphere could produce more than one storm per day, and some communities could be hit with flash flooding as well as lightning strikes and strong wind gusts, according to accuweather.com.

Here is the forecast:

Friday night: Increasing clouds, with a low around 70. South wind 5 to 7 mph.

Saturday: A chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 9am. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 88. South wind 8 to 13 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40%. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Saturday night: A chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 75. South wind 6 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40%. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Sunday: A slight chance of showers and thunderstorms after 1pm. Mostly sunny, with a high near 94. Light and variable wind becoming south around 5 mph in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 20%.

Sunday night: A slight chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 74. Chance of precipitation is 20%.
