William T. McDermott, World War II Veteran, Ex-POW, Dies At 92
Funeral Mass is slated for Tuesday for Bayville resident.

William T. McDermott, 92, of Bayville died on Tuesday, August 4, 2015 at Tallwoods Care Center in Bayville,
He was a longtime resident of Audubon, and lived in Whiting, NJ before moving to Bayville four years ago.

William was a US Army Air Corps Veteran and served in World War II. He became a prisoner of war in Germany after his plane was shot down. He received the Purple Heart and the Air Medal and was a member of the Ocean County Ex-POW’s.
Bill worked for the U.S. Government as a customs agent out of Philadelphia. Bill was always well known as a gentleman and kind and loving man to all who knew him. He was a devoted fan of the Phillies and the Eagles.

Predeceased by his beloved wife June, he is survived by his two daughters, Caren and her husband Kenneth Hess of Bayville and Carol and her husband Dr. Thomas Luedeke of Florida; four grandchildren, Kenneth and his wife Michele, William and his wife Ann Marie, Carrie and her husband Jon and Laura and her husband Alex and seven great-grandchildren, Kellen William, Alison, Maren, Owen, Alex, Arron and Carlyn.
Family and friends are invited to attend the funeral Mass at 11 a.m. on Tuesday August 11, 2015 at St. John’s R.C. Church, Lakehurst, NJ. Burial will follow at 1:30 p.m. at the New Jersey Veterans Cemetery, Arneytown, NJ. The Timothy E. Ryan Home for Funerals O’Connell Chape,l 706 Route 9, Bayville, NJ is in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital 501 St Jude Pl. Memphis, Tenn. Condolences may be sent to www.ryanfuneralhome.com
