14 Day Art Show Benefit for Katie Meyler’s More Than Me Academy is now open at Bernardsville Starbucks.
More Than Art features the beautiful upcycled collage work of Laura Skerratt Shabazz with 50% of the profit being donated to More Than Me.
Nothing could have prepared Meyler for what she saw when she first landed in Liberia as a 23-year-old volunteer: little girls on the street selling their bodies for water. "I decided then that I was going to help these girls" Katie Meyler. And help she did. Katie started a tuition free school in Liberia called More Than Me Academy (MTM). MTM was on the front line during the Ebola crisis for which Katie was recognized as one of Time Magazine’s 2014 persons of the year. MTM’s continued efforts reforming the education system in Liberia was recently recognized by People Magazine who named Katie one of the 25 Women Changing the World. Other women on this list include Oprah Winfrey, Sheryl Sandberg, and Michelle Obama.
Inspired by Katie's amazing attitude and energy, Raritan Valley Community College’s Enactus entrepreneurial club sought to partner with the More Than Me movement. The first fruits from this partnership is the production of an art show called More Than Art. This community event is being held at Starbucks in Bernardsville through December 4.
More Than Art features the beautiful upcycled collage work of Bernardsville artist Laura Skerratt Shabazz. Laura, who finds time to create art between working part-time at the Bernardsville public library, teaching guitar and raising a four-year-old, rips and recycled magazines and old books to create one of a kind collages.
