BEDMINSTER, NJ - The Somerset County Board of County Commissioners will host its sixth annual Juneteenth Celebration on Thursday, June 18, at the Somerset County Historic Courthouse Green in Somerville, with music starting at 4 p.m. and a program and performances beginning at 5 p.m.
This year's theme is "America at 250: Freedom Delayed, Justice Still Rising." The event is free and open to the public, rain or shine. Attendees are encouraged to bring a lawn chair or blanket.
The celebration will also include the presentation of the fourth annual Juneteenth Leadership Award, which this year honors S. Kendall Hall, founder and president of the Ubuntu Cultural Pavilion.
Hall is a co-founder of RAAA, Inc. — the Rutgers African-American Alumni Alliance — where she served for more than 20 years, helping expand the organization across all three Rutgers University campuses. She also played a key role in the creation of the Paul Robeson Plaza at Rutgers University and has led guided discussions in partnership with the Rutgers University Alumni Association to promote inclusive alumni engagement.
