Announcing Sunday Evening Services at St. Luke's Episcopal Church

Starting October 11, 2015, an additional 5:00 service will be added which will be varied week by week but consistent through the months.

In addition to St. Luke’s Episcopal Church 8:00 a.m. and 9:30 a.m. Sunday worship services, starting October 11, 2015, an additional 5:00 service will be added which will be varied week by week but consistent through the months.

The first week is a Taizé Service, with no sermon but candlelight, meditative music, scripture, silence and prayer. Worshippers of all faith and traditions are able to participate immediately. The original Taizé community is an ecumenical monistic order in Taizé, Burgundy, France inspired by a reformed minister in 1940 to bring peace and hope to those affected by World War II.

Traditional music in Evensong and Lessons and Carols, both beautiful Anglican traditions is the theme of week two. Evensong, roughly the equivalent of vespers, is a choral rendition from the Book of Common Prayer with evening prayers, Psalms and canticles and is considered a restorative service. Lessons and Carols is the story of salvation history, culminating in the birth of Jesus and told through readings from Scripture, well-loved congregational carols and special carols prepared by the choir.
