Bedminster Braces For Trump Visit, Protests Planned By Activists

Bedminster Police reported being prepared for President Donald Trump's visit Thursday night and activists are also planning protests.

BEDMINSTER, NJ — As the clock ticks down closer to President Donald Trump's visit to his golf course in Bedminster for the weekend, local police and activists are preparing for his arrival in very different ways.

Bedminster Police Chief Karl Rock issued a release stating his department is "prepared for the upcoming visit."

"The safety of anyone within Bedminster Township is paramount," Rock said.

Rock noted that there is not a safe public area along the roadside to congregate in the immediate area of Trump National Golf Course located at 900 Lamington Rd in Bedminster.

Rock suggested those wishing to visit Bedminster to express their first amendment rights to use the property at the corner of Route 206 and Lamington Road as the safest area.

New Jersey Working Families Alliance and its affiliates and partners have already said they will be setting up protests as part of their "Summer of Resistance." The protesters will be armed with signs and banners along Interstate 78 overpasses on his route to his Bedminster golf course.

Protests will be on the following overpasses over Interstate 78:

"Donald Trump will be coming to the state as the least popular president in recent history," states NJ Working Families Alliance. "During his 100 days, he has lead an administration that has shown itself to be bigoted, greedy and ineffective. He has threatened to deport our neighbors, take away our health care, reject refugees, and give even more tax breaks to billionaires."

Other protests are also being planned by UltraViolet — a women's advocacy group — that will promote its “More Popular Than Trump” campaign by saturating the Bedminster media market with all things that are more popular than Trump, such as abortion access.

Rock concluded with that he hopes "everyone who visits Bedminster Township enjoys their experience. I am hopeful that everyone maintains their respect for one another, public and private property and law enforcement."
