Bedminster Dogs Are Loving The Newly Renovated Park
The dog park at River Road Park recently underwent a complete renovation in Bedminster.
BEDMINSTER, NJ — There are definitely some happy pups and humans in Bedminster after the dog park at River Road Park recently underwent a complete renovation.
The project was spearheaded by Bedminster Township Committeeman Doug Stevinson and public works head John Mantz. It began in August and was completed in December.
Previously the park had temporary fencing that was falling down and many residents asked for the park to be moved due to complaints about the ground being too wet and there not being any shade for the dogs, Stevinson told Patch.

Using funds from a voter-aproved referendum in 2016, Stevinson worked with Mantz to move the dog park to a different area of River Road Park that had more trees to provide shade.
“Where the dog park was before, there was poor drainage and the ground never got dry,” Stevinson said. “It was always wet and sloppy. So we moved it closer to the ball field but also closer to the roadway."

The park was then expanded and widened and also has a five-foot fence along the perimeter to allow for both small and large dogs. There is also a gravel parking lot for visitors.
“Residents are very happy with it and we have gotten very positive feedback,” Stevinson.
Down the road, Stevinson would like to add more signage and use the area as an informational center where locals can post things going on in the township. He also would like to add running water there in the future.
