Bedminster Snow and Ice Ordinances You Need to Know

Bedminster, NJ -- The Bedminster Township Police are reminding residents to remove parked vehicles from the roadway to assist in the snow removal process.

Here are a list of township ordinances which relate to the removal of snow and ice.

7-3.8 Parking Prohibited During Snow Removal.
In the event of a snowfall, which results in the public streets, highways or thoroughfares to be covered by snow where snow plowing and/or de-icing is necessary, it shall be unlawful for any vehicle to be parked on any public street, highway or thoroughfare in the Township of Bedminster. This parking restriction shall remain in effect after the snow has ceased until the roadways have been cleared of snow to the extent that parking will not interfere with the normal flow of traffic. Vehicles in violation may be subject to a summons and towed away at the owner’s expense. Signage denoting this parking prohibition shall be placed along all public streets, highways or thoroughfares which enter the township, at its entrance point into the township, and at other designated areas as determined by the chief of police or the principal public works manager. 11-8 SNOW AND ICE REMOVAL.

11-8.1 Snow and Ice Removal from Sidewalks and Driveways.

The owner or tenant of real property abutting, adjoining, or bordering any public street shall remove all snow and ice from the abutting, adjoining, or bordering sidewalk, or driveway within the public right of way, of said public street, excluding any municipal hike and/or bike path, within twenty-four (24) hours of the snow having fallen or the ice having formed thereon. (Ord. #2003-35, S 1)

11-8.2 Enforcement.
Compliance with subsection 11-8.1 of this Section 11-8 shall be monitored and enforced by the Bedminster Township Police Department. Failure to comply shall result in the issuance of a written warning. Upon receipt of the initial written warning, if the owner or tenant fails to remove the snow and/or ice within:

a. Twelve (12) hours, said failure shall result in the issuance of a summons and a one hundred ($100.00) dollar fine;
b. Thirty-six (36) hours, said failure shall result in the issuance of an additional summons and a two hundred ($200.00) dollar fine;
c. Sixty (60) hours, said failure shall result in the issuance of an additional summons and a three hundred ($300.00) dollar fine; and
d. Eighty-four (84) hours, said failure shall result in the issuance of an additional summons and a four hundred ($400.00) dollar fine.

7-18.2 Placing of Snow or Ice on Public Rights-of-Way Prohibited.
No person or entity shall plow, shovel, throw, deposit, or otherwise place any snow or ice which has accumulated upon private property into or upon any public sidewalk, parking area, street, highway or thoroughfare, or any other public right-of-way within the Township of Bedminster, including the township’s “hike and bike” trails, unless specifically granted permission by the township.
