Bernardsville Secures Grant Funds For Dam Removal Project: What To Know
The project would include a new trail being built and replacing an existing pedestrian bridge.
BERNARDSVILLE, NJ — The borough of Bernardsville has secured a grant from the state for a project to remove a dam at Nervine Memorial Park.
Earlier this month, the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection and the Garden State Preservation Trust (GSPT) approved Bernardsville's application for a grant totaling $690,525 earlier this month.
The borough council confirmed the news at a meeting on June 15.

The council first submitted the application to the DEP on Feb. 23.
The dam removal project comes at a cost of around $3.4 million. Work includes soil removal and bank stabilization in an effort to create a stream through the park.

The dam received a high hazard designation from the DEP back in 2019, prompting the borough to either repair or remove it completely.
The council ultimately decided to move forward with a removal project.
