Bernardsville Street Fair to Kick Off Upcoming Community Events

Sounds Around Town set for June; 1st 'A Taste of Bernardsville,' planned for October instead of Unity Day this fall.

Bernardsville again will host its annual Street Fair between 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on May 19 on a stretch of Route 202 between Olcott Square and Claremont Road that will be closed to traffic and filled with tables, vendors and pedestrians.

The Bernardsville Borough website said that Mayor Lee Honecker and the Borough Council invite all residents to join in the fun at the fair.

A website on New Jersey festivals said there will be about 200 vendors, including food, and the organizer again is StreetFairs.org.

Borough Councilman Joe Rossi said he believes this year's will be the fourth street fair.

That event is being hosted by the borough. But there are other upcoming events through next fall, a number to be organized by the Bernardsville Chamber of Commerce.

The popular Sounds Around Town event, with different outdoors locations offering different kinds of music throughout the borough on an evening when local businesses and restaurants also stay open late, is scheduled for 5-9 p.m. on Friday, June 7, the chamber website says. Rain date is June 8.

Sounds Around Town will only be held once this year, said Rossi, who is also director for the chamber.

Later in October, the chamber will host its first A Taste of Bernardsville event, which will involve local restaurants and will raise funds for the Bernardsville Fire Co. and Rescue Squad, as well as local senior citizens, Rossi said.

Unity Day, another longtime fall event, is not scheduled to be held this year, Rossi said. That community get-together had served as a fundraiser for the charities that will receive proceeds from A Taste of Bernardsville, Rossi said.

However, Rossi said he isn't ruling out that Unity Day, a chamber event, could return another year.

Chamber members also run monthly Art Walks on the first Friday evening of several months each year. The next Art Walk is scheduled for 6 to 9 p.m. this Friday, with at least a half-dozen art studios, jewelers and design studios to participate.
