Bio Ethics in the 21st Century - Education Forum Series at St. Luke's
A forum on the technological advances being made in genetic research and the ethical challenges that arise from the Christian perspective.
In three sessions, at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church on October 4, October 11 and November 1, 2015 at 11:00 a.m., this forum will focus on the technological advances being made in genetic research and the ethical challenges that arise from the Christian perspective. For example, might the same technology that allows us to know the kind of cancer someone has also be used to predict the future traits of a human embryo? Might there be a move to learn if you like the traits of your baby before birth. Might people try to abort babies that aren’t what they are looking for, or genetically manipulate the embryo to produce characteristics they want? These are some of the possibilities that our world will face in the coming years, much of the technology already exists.
Parishioner, Nancy Lurker, CEO of PDI, Inc., a health services provider has been researching the possibilities and uncovering the ethical questions along the way as her company is investigating providing genetic testing to our clients. She and Rev. Dr. Kent Walley will present the scientific advances and Christian ethical questions in these three sessions.
