Evidence shows that some people who are immunocompromised may have a limited immune response to the first two doses of the COVID-19 vaccine. This third dose aims to prevent severe disease and complications for this group.

This definition of moderately to severely immunocompromised includes people who: are receiving active cancer treatment, have received an organ transplant and take immunosuppressive medication, received a stem cell transplant within the last 2 years, have primary immunodeficiency syndromes, have advanced or untreated HIV infection, or take high-dose corticosteroids. Speak with your healthcare provider about your condition to determine if receiving a third dose is appropriate for you. This third dose must be at least 28 days after your second dose.
