Borough Of Bernardsville : Somerset County Clerk Steve Peter Completes Vote-By-Mail Ballots Distribution For June 8 Primary

Somerset County Clerk Steve Peter announced that his office has completed sending Vote-by-Mail ballots to all Somerset County voters who requested one. Unlike the 2020 elections where every voter received a ballot in the mail, in 2021 only voters who have positively requested a ballot will receive one. All others will be able to vote in person at their polling place as they have in previous years.

“This primary will seem more familiar than last year’s, with most people voting at a polling place instead of being required to mail in a ballot,” said Clerk Peter. “However, those casting vote-by-mail ballots will still be able to use the drop boxes distributed last year, mail in their ballots, or bring them to the Board of Elections in Somerville.”

Voters can request a ballot be mailed to them until Tuesday, June 1, and can request a ballot in person at the Clerk’s office at 20 Grove Street in Somerville until Monday, June 7 at 3 p.m. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, access to the Clerk’s Office is by appointment only but people requesting a mail in ballot can come to the front desk and a staffer will come out to assist. Ballot application forms can also be downloaded at http://www.co.somerset.nj.us/vbm.

The Clerk’s Office will also have extended hours for voters to request ballots on Wednesday, June 2 until 6 p.m. and on Saturday, June 5 from 9 a.m. to noon.

Voters who have not affiliated with any party and have requested an absentee ballot will receive both a Republican and a Democratic primary ballot in the mail. These voters may vote one or neither ballot, but cannot vote both. If they decide to cast one of the ballots, they will then be affiliated with that party automatically.
