On August 20th, Cadet 2nd Lt Brendan J Hennessey Rose, of the Lone Eagle Composite Squadron, was presented with his Civil Air Patrol (CAP) Billy Mitchell Award by Capt. Steven S. Kiss, Commander, Lone Eagle Composite Squadron, in the municipal building, Borough of Peapack-Gladstone, NJ. Cadet 2nd Lt Brendan J Hennessey Rose is the son of Mr. Greg Rose and Mrs. Carolyn Hennessey Rose of Basking Ridge, NJ. He is a sophomore at Ridge High School where he is active in football.

The Billy Mitchell award, the second cadet milestone achievement, is earned after the successful completion of the first eight achievements of the cadet program. In addition to the achievements, the cadet must pass a comprehensive examination on aerospace and leadership, and attend Basic Encampment. Only about 15% of all Civil Air Patrol cadets achieve the Billy Mitchell Award.
Billy Mitchell Cadets who enlist in the U.S. Air Force are promoted to E-3 (airman first class) instead of E-1 (airman basic) upon completion of basic military training. Billy Mitchell cadets who enlist in the Army, Navy, or Marine Corps are promoted to E-2 instead of E-1 upon completion of basic military training. Likewise, Billy Mitchell cadets who enlist in the US Coast Guard are promoted to E-3 (seaman) instead of E-1 (seaman recruit) upon completion of boot camp.

Civil Air Patrol, the official auxiliary of the U.S. Air Force, is a nonprofit organization with 60,000 members nationwide, operating a fleet of 550 aircraft. CAP, in its Air Force auxiliary role, performs about 85 percent of continental U.S. inland search and rescue missions as tasked by the Air Force Rescue Coordination Center and is credited by the AFRCC with saving an average of 70 lives annually. Its unpaid professionals also perform homeland security, disaster relief and drug interdiction missions at the request of federal, state and local agencies. The members play a leading role in aerospace education and serve as mentors to more than 25,000 young people currently participating in the CAP cadet programs. Performing missions for America for over 70 years, CAP will soon receive the Congressional Gold Medal in honor of the heroic efforts of its World War II veterans. CAP also participates in Wreaths Across America, an initiative to remember, honor and teach about the sacrifices of U.S. military veterans.
