Colonial Brewer On Tap At Weekend Journey Through the Past

A colonial brewer will discuss how beer played a central role in the social, economic and political life of our regional ancestors.

BEDMINSTER, NJ — Learn all about beer at the Jacobus Vanderveer House & Museum during the upcoming Weekend Journey Through the Past on Saturday and Sunday.

Colonial brewer Rich Wagner, of Hatboro, PA will discuss how beer played a central role in the social, economic and political life of our regional ancestors.

He performs the demonstration in period dress, and all of his brewing equipment is handmade with Colonial-era materials.

Rich is a regular contributor to Mid-Atlantic Brewing News, the American Breweriana Journal, the Eastern Coast Breweriana Association’s the KEG as well as other publications. He has published a book, entitledPhiladelphia Beer – The Heady History of Brewing in the Cradle of Liberty (History Press 2012).

Presented by the Somerset County Cultural & Heritage Commission in collaboration with 26 local historical societies, Weekend Journey Through the Past, offers free visits to five historical properties located in the Somerset Hills – The Brick Academy, Boudinot Southard Ross House, and Kennedy Martin Stelle Farmstead, all in Bernards Township; United States Golf Association in Far Hills, and The Jacobus Vanderveer House & Museum in Bedminster. Visitors experience the sights and sounds of the 18th century with costumed re-enactors, house tours and activities; living-history re-enactors; open-hearth cooking; colonial life; interactive activities and games.

All of the historic properties will be open for tours and activities on Saturday, October 8 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday, October 9 from noon to 4 p.m.
