Elections 2012: Four Bedminster Committee Candidates

Elections will be held Tuesday despite power outages from Hurricane Sandy.

Despite rampant power outages throughout the township, Tuesday's elections will go on as planned, and the township committee is seeing four candidates for two open spots on the Bedminster Township Committee.

Incumbent Steven Parker is running for reelection, along with Republican Lawrence Jacobs. They are running against Democrats Sasha Wolf and Gail Solomon-Canty.

Current Mayor Robert Holtaway is not seeking reelection this year.

Polls will be open Tuesday from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Because so many locations in Bedminster are without power, the township is having all of its districts vote in the municipal building on Miller Lane. The township will be using generators in the building to run its polling stations.

All four candidates discussed their thoughts on how the township can move forward and maintain their quality of life.

Bedminster residents will also be asked to vote on a ballot question. The question asks whether Bedminster residents would allow for a certain percentage of the funds in the Open Space Trust Fund to be used for maintenance of open space.

Aside from the local elections, residents will be voting on the state and federal levels.

  • Presidential—Democratic President Barack Obama or Republican Mitt Romney
  • US Senate—Democratic incumbent Robert Menendez or Republican Joseph Kyrillos
  • US House of Representatives—Republican incumbent Leonard Lance or Democrat Upendra Chivukula
  • Somerset County Board of Chosen Freeholders—Republican incumbents Patrick Scaglion and Mark Caliguire or Democrats Anthony Pranzatelli and William Galtieri
