Employment Scam Reported In Bernardsville
A Bernardsville resident reported being the victim of a scam where $4,300 was stolen after someone claimed to be hiring for a company.

BERNARDSVILLE, NJ — A Bernardsville resident reported being the victim of a scam while attempting to look for a job.
The Washington Avenue resident reported that between June 1 and 15, the victim had posted on a website handshake.com looking for a job.
Someone claiming to be hiring from a company exchanged numerous emails with the victim and sent the victim a check for $4,650 to deposit in her bank account. The victim was then told to deposit $4,300 in cash into another account, which she was told would be used to buy her software supplies, Bernardsville Police reported.

The check was later found to be fake and the employer, whom the victim thought she was being hired for, had no record of her application.
The victim is working with Bank of America and Wells Fargo to get the money returned.

- Between June 15 and 18: A Hardscramble Road resident reported noticing small holes in the ground floor window of their home. It appears as if small rocks were thrown through the window. The homeowner didn't suspect anyone entered the home.
- On June 20 at 10:19 a.m.: A Dayton Crescent resident reported seeing a bear go through neighbors' yards.
- On June 20 at 11:24 a.m.: A Timber Road Trail resident reported seeing a large bear in their backyard.
- Sometime between May 12 and June 9: An Old Bridge resident reported someone tried to cash a check against the victim's checking account at a bank in Bernardsville. The bank had flagged the $1,600 check and no money was withdrawn. Police are investigating the incident to try and identify the alleged suspect.
- Sometime between June 3 and June 24: A Skyline Drive resident reported someone drove up the driveway and drove over landscaping lighting that was placed along the driveway and damaged it. The total value of the damage was $600.
