Enjoy An Hour's Retreat With Taize Service At St. Luke's Church

St. Luke's Church in Gladstone is hosting a Taizé service with singing, prayer and meditation on Sunday, April 26, 2015 at 4:00 pm.

Taizé exists because of one man’s passion to revitalize people through a passion for prayer. Brother Roger developed a service that combines chanting/singing with a period of silence for reflection or meditation. Taizé is named for town in France where he founded his monastery of brothers.

Our service is modeled after the worship of the Taizé community, an ecumenical monastic order in Burgundy, France inspired by a reformed minister in 1940 to bring peace and hope to those affected by World War II. Three times a day, everything on the hill of Taizé stops. Bells ring, calling people to prayer. Hundreds of people from all over the world pray and sing together with the brothers of the community. Scripture is read in several languages. In the middle of each common prayer, there is a long period of silence, a unique moment for meeting with God. Our service will be in English, but will include the traditional repetitive music of Taizé, which is easy to sing and conducive to mediation.

This special event is free and open to all, with a free-will offering.

St. Luke’s is located at 182 Main Street, Gladstone. For additional information, please visit www.stlukesgladstone.org or contact the parish office at (908) 234-0002.
