Financial Planning: A Wake-Up Call for Women

How women can start developing an understanding of their own financial landscapes and how to prepare for big life changes.

Marriage, children, divorce, and loss of a spouse can all strain a woman’s finances and detour her financial well-being. On Wednesday, September 14 at 7:00 pm at Bernardsville Public Library, Ash Rajan of Janney Montgomery Scott will discuss how women can start developing an understanding of their own financial landscapes and how to prepare for such life changes.

Among the topics he will touch on will be how planning the proper care for one's children includes understanding the many college savings plans and options for tax-free and tax-deferred savings; how divorce and remarriage require reviewing and updating estate plan documents for proper beneficiary designations and creating a new financial plan; how, while the death of a loved one is hard to imagine and even harder to plan for, an established estate plan can help prepare for the financial impact; and how helping your parents plan for their advanced years may be the best gift you give them, and yourself.

Mr. Rajan counsels affluent families, advising them and their heirs on the acquisition, preservation and transfer of their wealth. A twenty-eight year Wall Street practitioner, Rajan is currently at Janney Montgomery Scott LLC, a venerable investment boutique, founded in 1832. Prior to Janney, as the U.S. Chief Investment Strategist for Merrill Lynch Private Bank, Rajan advised prominent families, foundations and endowments, boards and non-profits. Past roles in the industry include membership in Wells Fargo’s Global Investment Policy Committee and head of that firm’s Equity Focus Group. Previously, he was the co-head of the Equity Research Strategies Group at Morgan Stanley.
