BEDMINSTER, NJ — Drivers should prepare as the I-78 westbound ramp to I-287 southbound in Bedminster will be closed overnight on Tuesday for continued bridge work by the New Jersey Department of Transportation. The I-78 westbound exit 29 ramp to I-287 northbound will remain open.

"The closure is necessary to continue beam installations on the new flyover bridge being constructed for I-78 eastbound to I-287 northbound. Motorists will be detoured using I-287 northbound," NJDOT announced.

In addition to the ramp closure, there will be temporary 15-minute slowdowns of I-287 southbound from 10 p.m. through 6 a.m. to allow for the erection of the beams.

The $24.5 million federally-funded I-287/I-78/Route 202/Route 206 Interchange Improvements project will enhance safety and improve traffic operations between the existing I-287 interchanges with I-78 and Route 202/206. The erection of the steel beams form part of a new flyover bridge being constructed from I-78 eastbound to I-287 northbound. Two new bridges are to be constructed over I-287, one over northbound lanes, and another over southbound lanes. The project is expected to be completed in late 2019.
