Military Veterans Representing Team New Jersey Capture “Secretary’s Cup,” 9-Hole Golf Match Prior to 2017 PGA Championship
Team New Jersey wins the Secretary's Cup, in a 9-Hole Golf Match

PGA REACH, the charitable foundation of the PGA of America, hosted the 2nd annual “Secretary’s Cup,” on Sunday, August 6th at the revered Charlotte Country Club in North Carolina. The 9-hole golf match featured 25 military Veterans that have been participating in PGA HOPE (Helping Our Patriots Everywhere) golf programming. PGA HOPE is a rehabilitative program designed to introduce golf to Veterans with disabilities to enhance their physical, mental, social and emotional well-being.
The competition consisted of Veterans representing the Carolinas Section PGA, the New Jersey PGA Section and the Metropolitan PGA Section. Team New Jersey captured the cup by shooting a 31 on the 9-hole course, besting the 2nd place team by 3 strokes. Veterans from Team New Jersey (L to R) (Carl Montez, Harry Slater, Charles Wilcox, and Glenn Hockman) were joined by PGA Professional, Mat Kent (2nd from the right) who is instrumental in teaching the HOPE program at the Section level.
PGA of America CEO, Pete Bevacqua (Far left) and PGA of America President, Paul Levy (Far right) presented Team New Jersey with the Secretary’s Cup trophy. Following the event, the before returning home to NJ, the Veterans were invited to enjoy a practice round at Quail Hollow Golf Club host of the 2017 PGA Championship.
