From local fields to national fame, these stars got their start in Bernardsville.

Sports run deep in Bernardsville, and Bernards High School has long been at the heart of it. It’s no surprise some standout talent once wore the Mountaineer uniform. Today we're celebrating five unforgettable athletes from Bernards High School who made a name for themselves well beyond the hometown field.
1. Dana Giordano - Former Professional Runner
Dana Giordano is widely regarded as the most accomplished modern athlete in Bernards High School history, winning multiple New Jersey state championships and earning All-American honors in multiple events. Her success continued at Dartmouth College, where she became a three-time NCAA All-American, an Ivy League champion and one of the top distance runners in program history. After college, Giordano transitioned to the professional ranks, competing with the Boston Athletic Association High Performance Team and qualifying for major national competitions, including the U.S. Olympic Trials. 2. Bill Kirchiro - Former NFL Lineman
Former Mountaineer Kirchiro was a standout football player whose talents shone brightest post-Bernards High. After high school, he went on to compete at the University of Maryland, earning All-ACC second team honors and receiving the James Tatum Memorial Award for the team’s Lineman of the Year. 3. Corrine Romano - Former Collegiate Thrower
Romano was an exceptional multi-sport athlete at Bernards High School, competing in basketball, field hockey and track & field. She achieved her greatest success in track and field, excelling in the throws such as the hammer throw, discus and shot put, earning State Sectional Championships and First-Team All-Conference honors. 4. Perry Scott - Muhlenberg College Hall of Famer
After his time at Bernards High School, Perry Scott went on to play college football at Muhlenberg College — where he is now a Hall of Famer — before reaching the professional ranks with the Detroit Lions in the 1940s. 5. Bob Nash - Former NFL Champion
Bob Nash, a former Mountaineer and offensive lineman, proved to be force at Cornell University and Rutgers University, earning second-team All-American honors at Rutgers and netting a spot in the Rutgers Athletics Hall of Fame. Nash played professionally for the APFA (now known as the NFL) for several teams, including the Buffalo All-Americans and New York Giants.
