New Year, New You With ShopRite's Wholesome Pantry
The Dietitian at the Bernardsville Shoprite showcased all of the healthy offerings to creating a better you for 2017.
BERNARDSVILLE, NJ — The new year is here and many are already working on a new you. To help guide shoppers in their journey, Registered Dietitian Allie Sanderson of the ShopRite of Bernardsville took Patch on a tour to showcase the new, healthier line of products now available in locations in Somerset and Union counties.
When shoppers first enter their is a special case called “Helping Families Eat Better.” Inside the case is stocked with all of the ingredients needed to create a healthy recipe, which are free to take. One such recipe is Veal Marsala Scaloppini.
The store also recently revamped their organic produce aisle to expand and offer more products. Such items include the Cinnamon Persimmon, which offers a sweet flavor for those cutting out sugar.

“It offers you the sweet fix while cutting back on calories,” Sanderson said.
ShopRite has also announced the launch of Wholesome Pantry, a new private label line of free-from and organic products available exclusively at all of its more than 270 stores such as those in New Jersey.

The new brand, marketed as Wholesome Pantry and Wholesome Pantry Organic, is designed as an accessible alternative for customers seeking cleaner ingredients and simpler labeling. Wholesome Pantry’s free-from line includes products void of 110 ingredients and contains no artificial additives, flavors or preservatives. The organic line is USDA-certified organic and complies with standards set by the USDA National Organic Program.
The Wholesome Pantry lineup includes products found in nearly every aisle, including frozen, produce, dairy, and meat, along with more than 35 wholesome snack varieties, such as Almond Energy Mix and Organic Banana Chips. More than 100 Wholesome Pantry items are available on shelves now, with that number expected to triple in the coming months. The products are also available to customers who shop online via ShopRite’s popular ShopRite from Home service.
Some of these products and helpful recipes are also showcased on the end caps of aisles by Sanderson. For the New Year’s she had healthy "mocktails" to offer locals a chance to celebrate in a healthy way.
Shoppers can spot the wholesome pantry items by the green packaging and organic products which are in purple.
“This new line allows shopper to change their routine and try new things since out taste buds are always changing,” Sanderson said.
Some new products include Kombucha tea, a probiotic tea that uses fermented bacteria to help keep you healthy. Another interesting product is the Banza pastas which are made from chickpeas.
“There are tons of fiber and protein in this pasta and is great for meatless Mondays,” Sanderson said.
“Customers can find something healthy in each aisle with the green and purple labels,” Sanderson said. “They don’t have to go to a health food store anymore.”
Sanderson works at the Bernardsville ShopRite location is available most days to guide shoppers on what they need to get to help live a healthier lifestyle.
