One Book Bernardsville Movie Night

Watch the 1944 movie based on our One Book Bernardsville selection, Oscar Wilde's short story, "The Canterville Ghost."

Watch the 1944 movie based on our One Book Bernardsville selection, Oscar Wilde’s short story, “The Canterville Ghost,” at Bernardsville Public Library on Friday, October 14 at 7:00 pm. The movie stars Charles Laughton, Robert Young and Margaret O’Brien. Laughton plays Sir Simon de Canterville, the 17th century British aristocrat who, after proving himself a coward on the field of honor, is doomed to haunt the corridors of Canterville Hall until one of his descendants performs a conspicuous act of bravery. Afterwards, we’ll chat about the differences between the original story and the movie which was adapted to a contemporaneous, wartime setting.

Bernardsville Library invites everyone to join us in this community reading project. During October, we are celebrating ghosts all month, discussing the story, watching the movie, and learning about our own local ghost, Phyllis, of the old Vealtown Tavern.

There is no charge to attend the program, but advance sign-up is requested. Register online at www.bernardsvillelibrary.org and follow the link from Adult Programs, or call the library at 908-766-0118 to sign up.
