I knew there was a reason for me to be there. I was on the swings, but there was something else. Finally, on the third trip, I found it. The plaque. On the rock. It was hidden behind trees, so it was not easily visible from that side of the play area. I stood in front of it and read the message…for Don…
“Dedicated in his memory to our youth for whom he had deep affection…”
Don was the first policemen in the town of Tewksbury. That rock is behind the swing set at their elementary school. It is just a rock…but if someone went to the trouble to put a plaque on a rock, you might want to take the few seconds to read what it says. There are many of them throughout our state. Plaques that is. And swings and seconds too. There are many seconds regardless how busy your life is.

This story is really about the swing sets though. Yes, I am an adult, and yes I was riding on the swing sets. Why? Not because I was trying to be a child again, but because I was trying to remember what it was like to have a Dad always standing behind me. In this case, it was him standing behind me to push me on the swing. My guess is your children will remember the same types of things one day. If you can’t remember the last time you stood behind your child at a swing, you might want to find the seconds seconds seconds to do that soon.
