Driver Wanted After Fleeing Traffic Stop, Crashing In Bedminster

As a result of the crash, a portion of Bedminster Township's Hike & Bike Trail is closed for safety reasons until further notice.

BEDMINSTER, NJ — A driver who fled the scene of a traffic stop in Bedminster and crashed is wanted by the New Jersey State Police, Trooper Charles Marchan said Friday.

State Police stopped a blue BMW on I-287 in Bedminster at around 1:40 p.m. on Thursday for a moving violation. When the trooper approached the car it took off, Marchan said.

Police did not chase the vehicle, which later crashed off exit 22 in Bedminster and fled the scene, Marchan said.

No injuries were reported on scene and police are still searching for the missing vehicle.

The trail is closed between Robertson Drive in The Hills development and the River Road jug handle on the north side of the North Branch of the Raritan River adjacent to 202/206 north, Bedminster Police announced on Thursday at 4 p.m..
