Practical Advice for Writing a Screenplay

Hear professional screenwriter and producer Wayne Behar discuss how to get your screenplay to the right person and 5 things never to do.

Do you have an idea that everyone has told you would make a terrific movie? If so, come to Bernardsville Public Library on Tuesday, November 10 at 7:00 pm to hear professional screenwriter and producer Wayne Behar tell you how to make it happen. The discussion will include determining whether you have a movie or just a good idea, the professional structure of a screenplay, how to get your screenplay to the right person, and five things you should never do when writing a screenplay.

With more than twenty-five years of experience encompassing both the creative and financial aspects of feature development and production, Mr. Behar enjoys a unique perspective on the motion picture industry. His background includes an extended stint with legendary producer David Brown [’Jaws’, ‘The Sting’]. A few of his recent screenwriter credits include “Big Apple Bytes” (2013); “Out Of Orbit” (2011); and “Shadow of the Tiger” (2007). In 2010, he was a semi-finalist of Golden Brad Awards Short Screenplay Competition in which over 3,000 screenplays were submitted.

The discussion at the library will also cover the importance of writing for yourself as well as your audience, writing your own story from a personal experience, and how to begin creating characters. Mr. Behar will touch on recently released films and incorporate the audience’s favorite films into the examples.
