"Racing with My Shadow" - Winning Former Jockey Karen Rogers to Speak at Bernardsville Library
One of the first successful female jockeys and the author of "Racing with My Shadow," a gripping autobiography about her life.

Meet Karen Rogers, one of the first successful female jockeys and the author of "Racing with My Shadow," a gripping autobiography about her personal and professional life. She'll talk about her book and her experiences at Bernardsville Public Library on Monday, August 21 at 7:00 pm. Books will be available for purchase and signing.
Ms. Rogers, who lives in Gladstone, was the leading female jockey in the country in the early 1980s and, at one time, the leading rider at Monmouth Park. Angel Cordero, the superstar rider whose flat-out aggressive style Ms. Rogers admired most, paid her the ultimate compliment—for a jockey, at least: “She has good hands, a good head and such a good seat that you can’t tell she’s a girl.”
Her book takes the reader on a wild ride of both tragedy and triumph, describing the highs and lows of her career as well as the pain and despair of a dysfunctional childhood and the addictions and toxic relationships it fostered.
