Refresh The Soul And Inform The Mind At Choral Evensong At St. Luke's
Please join the Adult Choir of St. Luke's Church, directed by Dr. Brian Harlow, for a service of Choral Evensong.
Dr. Harlow holds degrees from Yale University School of Music and Indiana University School of Music and is an active member of the American Guild of Organists and the Association of Anglican Musicians.
Evensong is a service of sung Evening Prayer that allows for an hour of peaceful reflection toward the end of the day. It is an ancient service created by Thomas Cranmer in the 16th century from the sevenfold monastic cycle of prayer by combining the offices of Vespers and Compline. It follows a liturgy from the Book of Common Prayer, the revised version of Cranmer’s 1549 prayer book that was introduced into the Church of England in 1662.
The service will be filled with choral music and hymns, including music by Herbert Brewer and John Ireland. Readings will be taken from the poetic King James Version of The Bible.
