Saturday Samplers Book Group to Discuss "Infidel"
The story of Ayaan Hirsi Ali--how a bright little girl evolves out of dutiful obedience to become an outspoken pioneering freedom fighter.

Bernardsville Library’s book discussion group, Saturday Samplers, will meet on Saturday, June 3 at 3:30 pm to talk about "Infidel" (2007) by Ayaan Hirsi Ali. [The author will not be present.]
The book is the story of Ali’s coming of age—how a bright little girl evolves out of dutiful obedience to become an outspoken pioneering freedom fighter. She was raised in a strict Muslim family, survived civil war, and lived in four unstable countries before finally escaping from a forced marriage and seeking asylum in the Netherlands where she earned a college degree in political science and became a member of the Dutch Parliament. Under threat after collaborating with Theo Van Gogh on his movie "Submission," she left the Netherlands and worked as a fellow at the American Enterprise Institute. She founded AHA Foundation, a women's rights organization and became a U.S. citizen in 2013. That year she was made a fellow at the Kennedy Government School at Harvard University.
