Saturday Samplers Book Group to Discuss "Just Kids"
In 2010, a never-before-seen glimpse of the legendary American artist's remarkable relationship with photographer Robert Mapplethorpe.

Bernardsville Library’s book group, Saturday Samplers, will meet on Saturday, November 4 at 10:30 am to discuss "Just Kids" (2010) by Patti Smith. [The author will not be present.]
The book is Ms. Smith's first book of prose and offers a never-before-seen glimpse of the legendary American artist's remarkable relationship with photographer Robert Mapplethorpe in the epochal days of New York City and the Chelsea Hotel in the late nineteen sixties and seventies. An honest and moving story of youth and friendship, Smith brings the same unique, lyrical quality to "Just Kids" as she has to the rest of her formidable body of work--from her influential 1975 album "Horses" to her visual art and poetry. Elizabeth Hand of The Washington Post called the friendship of the two a "mystical relationship that continued until Mapplethorpe's death from AIDS in 1989.”
