Sign Up For The Smartest Card At Bernardsville Public Library
September is National Library Card Sign-Up Month

Bernardsville Public Library wants to make sure that everyone in Bernardsville has the smartest card of all—a library card. September is Library Card Sign-up Month, a time when Bernardsville Library joins with the American Library Association and libraries nationwide to make sure that everyone has a free library card.
Today’s libraries offer a world of information and learning for all ages. Studies have shown that children who are read to in the home and who use the library perform better in school. “Our library provides access and programs for students of all ages,” says Tammy Lee, Youth Services Manager. “For preschool age children, we offer early literacy and story times to encourage school readiness, for older children and teens we supplement education with hands-on science and technology programs, and for older teens we have books and other tools to help prepare for the college application process.”
Anyone can turn to the library for materials, programs and knowledgeable library staff that support academic achievement and professional goals or for programs providing useful information on government services, health, and financial tips for different stages of life.

“Today’s libraries aren’t just a place of quiet study, but also creative and engaging community centers where members of the community can collaborate, listen to informative lectures, enjoy music and film programs, or just relax with peers,” said Director April L. Judge.
“Library cards are a great way to connect with your community,” said James Keehbler, president of the New Jersey Library Association. “New Jersey libraries are partnering with schools, local businesses and community groups to offer innovative programming and resources. Getting a card is easy, and you’ll be able to take advantage of all your local library has to offer.”

Anyone who lives, works, attends school, or pays taxes in the Borough of Bernardsville is eligible for a free library card. All that is needed to apply is identification showing your relevant home or work address. There is no age restriction for a card.
During the month of September, watch for library welcome tables around town, manned by library staff, Trustees, Library Foundation members and Friends, for a quick and easy way to get a new card. “We’ll be at the Farmer’s Market, Kings, Penguin Ice Cream, ShopRite, and Starbucks,” added Ms. Judge. “We hope to see you at one of these locations and we’ll sign you up for a library card.”
Observed since 1987, Library Card Sign-up Month is an annual celebration during which the New Jersey Library Association (NJLA), the American Library Association (ALA), and libraries across the country remind people to sign up, renew, or use their library cards.
