The Madrigal Singers will present their annual Spring Concert, Beauty, Truth and Rarity, on Sunday, May 4, 2014 at Bridgewater United Methodist Church, 651 Country Club Road, Bridgewater, New Jersey at 4 p.m. The program will be repeated on Sunday, May 18, 2014at the First United Methodist Church, One East Broad Street, in Westfield, New Jersey at 4:00 p.m. General admission, available at the door, is $15; admission for students and seniors is $10.
The program will feature William Byrd's Mass for Five Voices, and will also include works by Lassus, Josquin Des Prez, Hans Leo Hassler, Manuel Cardoso, Sergei Rachmaninov and music director John Sichel.
The Madrigal Singers are an a capella choral group specializing in Mediaeval and Renaissance music. The group, founded in 1948, is currently in under the direction of John Sichel, and is comprised of sopranos Martha Desmond, Holly Newberry, Pam Newell and Amy Wechsler; altos Donna Brumbaugh, Roberta Lichtenberg, Jennifer Melick and Sarah Riffel; tenors Tim Brown, Richard DeVany, Christopher Ferro and Gustavo Sanchez; and basses Gregory Hartline, Kirk Robbins and Gordon Rowan. Judy Sullivan will perform the readings.
