Stolen Car Set On Fire In Bedminster

A suspicious person was also reportedly hiding in the bushes behind a Bedminster home in a separate incident, police report.

BEDMINSTER, NJ — A stolen car was set on fire and left on the side of Route 202/206 in Bedminster, police reported.

On May 27 at 1:46 p.m., Bedminster Police responded to Route 202/206 North at Route 287 South exit for a report of an abandoned car on fire.

Upon arrival, a tow truck driver and member of Far Hills Bedminster Fire Department were on scene extinguishing the fire.

The caller said that while he was driving northbound on Route 202/206 from Bridgewater, he saw a Black GMC Denali with New York Plates parked on the right lane, unoccupied and on fire.

Following an investigation, the vehicle was found to be reported stolen out of the 115th New York precinct on May 25.

On May 22 at 10:45 a.m.: Bedminster Police responded to Stone Run Road for a report of criminal mischief. Upon arrival the officer met with the caller and observed the front right, back right and back left tires on his vehicle were completely flat. The caller advised the vehicle was last driven on May 21 at approximately 7 p.m. Upon inspection, the wheels were found to have numerous pin holes and required replacement.

On May 24 at approximately 9:37 p.m.: Bedminster Police responded to Exeter Road for the report of a suspicious person. The caller advised that while she was outside on the back patio she heard a noise from behind the bushes/fence. When she looked up she saw a man about 5’7” tall wearing a black or blue hooded sweatshirt. The caller advised that the man ran towards Hills Drive. The officer checked the surrounding area and did not locate any persons matching that description.

On May 25 at approximately 10:36 p.m.: Bedminster Police took over custody of Isaiah Pompey, 22, of Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, from South Brunswick Police. Pompey had an active warrant out of Bedminster Township for $500, no 10 percent option. Pompey was lodged in Somerset County Jail in lieu of bail.
