Trump To Visit Bedminster For Holiday Weekend, Will Impact Small Nearby Airports
The FAA issued a VIP temporary flight restriction in Morristown and Bedminster for June 30 to July 3 for Trump's visit this holiday weekend.

BEDMINSTER, NJ — President Donald Trump is heading to Bedminster this coming holiday weekend to spend his time at Trump National Golf Club on Lamington Road, which will cause impacts to local small airports.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has issued a temporary flight restriction for Bedminster at the request of the Secret Service. The FAA worked with the Secret Service to minimize the impact on air traffic operations at area aviation facilities and in the Hudson River Special Flight Rules Area, according to FAA.
Two temporary flight restrictions will be in effect: the first from 5 p.m. Friday, June 30 until 7 p.m. Saturday, July 1; and the second from 10:45 p.m. Sunday, July 2 until 7:30 p.m., Monday, July 3.

The restriction is essentially three-fold.
All aircrafts are grounded for airports within the 10 mile radius, which would include the Somerset Airport in Bedminster. No flights can arrive or leave except for approved law enforcement, military aircraft directly supporting the United States Secret Service (USSS) and the office of the President of the United States, or approved air ambulance flights. Commercial flights flying over the area are not affected.

Airports within the 10 mile to 30 mile radius are limited to aircraft arriving or departing local airfields and workload permitting.
Airports in the 30 mile radius have a little more leeway. Operations that are not authorized include: flight training, practice instrument approaches, aerobatic flight, glider operations, seaplane operations, parachute operations, ultralight, hang gliding, balloon operations, agriculture/crop dusting, animal population control flight operations, banner towing operations, sightseeing operations, maintenance test flights, model aircraft operations, model rocketry, unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) and utility and pipeline survey operations.

Nearby small airports have voiced their concerns over the visits and the impacts to their facilities. Solberg Airport in Whitehouse Station co-owner Suzanne Nagle said it negatively affects their operations. "It places a black cloud over the airports within the 30-mile radius," Nagle said, according to philly.com.
Somerset Airport did immediately not respond to a request for comment from Patch.com.
The FAA cancelled a meeting to discuss the flight restrictions and impacts to the area. FAA spokesman Jim Peters said he is unsure if the FAA will reschedule that meeting.
