Video: Car Bursts Into Flames, Firefighters Respond On I-78

Far Hills-Bedminster firefighters captured the action on video as they extinguished a car engulfed in flames on I-78 in Bedminster Tuesday.

BEDMINSTER, NJ — A video captured by firefighters shows their battle to extinguish a car that was fully engulfed in flames on I-78 in Bedminster Tuesday morning.

A 57-year-old man from Annadale was driving on I-78 east on April 23 when he pulled his Ford Focus over into the shoulder at milepost 31.2 in Bedminster, New Jersey State Trooper Alejandro Goez said.

The driver reportedly got out before the car burst into flames. It was fully engulfed when authorities responded at 5:52 a.m., Goez said.

The Far Hills-Bedminster Fire Department responded and filmed the action (see below). The right lane was closed down for about 45 minutes while the fire was extinguished.

It was determined the fire originated from the engine. The cause of the fire is still under investigation. There are no reported injuries.
