Gladstone, NJ – Families with children in the third grade are invited to apply for a New Family Scholarship at The Willow School, a preschool through grade eight independent school focused on academic excellence and the joy of learning. “Between six and ten students who qualify for admission will receive the scholarship,” said Head of School Jerry Loewen in making the announcement today.
The scholarship is open to families of all income levels. Tuition for students enrolled through this program will be a maximum of $6,000 for the period of January – June, 2016. Supplemental assistance is available beyond this discount for those who qualify. Additionally, the school will offer 50% tuition for the 2016-17 school year for families who join Willow through this program. Tuition assistance is available for qualifying families through eighth grade.

“This mid-year start opens the door to many families, who after fall parent-teacher conferences, may want to explore other academically rigorous educational options that might better meet their child’s needs,” said Loewen.
“Demographic changes and shifting economic factors are having an impact on all New Jersey independent schools, and Willow is no different,” added Loewen. “We are trying new approaches and shaking up the old business model.”

The school’s mission-driven Virtues Program is at the heart of its culture, as well as one of the motivating factors for this scholarship offer.
Loewen explained, “We continually teach that ethical citizens take responsibility for their actions and the resources under their control while they craft solutions that systematically solve problems. Offering these discounted spots to new students more fully puts our resources to work and serves to benefit families who might not otherwise have seen an independent school education in their future.”
The school currently provides nearly 25% of its students with financial aid. Loewen concluded, “We know there are so many students that would flourish at Willow because of our fully integrated focus on ethical development and strong academics.”
