3 Arrests Made After Bloomfield, Belleville Robberies: Police

Police arrested three Essex County men in connection with robberies that took place in Bloomfield and Belleville, authorities say.

BLOOMFIELD, NJ — Police have arrested three Essex County men in connection with a series of robberies that took place in Bloomfield and Belleville on Friday, authorities say.

According to the Bloomfield Police Department, officers responded to Lexington Avenue on a reported robbery around 6 p.m. A female victim on the scene told officers that two men got out of a car near the intersection of Lexington and Florence avenues, approached her, pushed her to the ground and choked her.

Bloomfield police said that the victim was then robbed of her bag, which contained money and identification, and the suspects fled towards Grove Street.

Emergency responders treated the woman at the scene for minor injuries, authorities said.

BELLEVILLE ROBBERY

Shortly before the alleged Bloomfield robbery, Belleville experienced a robbery at 73 Harrison Street involving two suspects and a vehicle matching the incident in Bloomfield, police said.

After sharing information, officers relayed the information from both robberies to surrounding police agencies with a description of the suspects and vehicle, authorities said.

A patrol unit with the Essex County Sheriff’s Office later located the suspects’ vehicle and conducted a motor vehicle stop on Watsessing Ave near the entrance of 8 Franklin Street. Bloomfield and Belleville units also arrived on scene to assist with the stop, authorities said.

Officers on the scene found property belonging to the victim of the Bloomfield and Belleville robberies inside the vehicle, police stated.

Authorities arrested Lee Jones, 23, of Newark, Isaiah Hayes, 21, of Newark, and Worthy Shannon, 18, of Bloomfield, and charged each with Robbery, Receiving Stolen Property, Conspiracy and Possession of CDS.

Jones and Shannon were assigned $75,000 bails with no 10 percent options. Hayes was assigned a $50,000 bail with no 10 percent option.

Bloomfield police later charged the three men with an additional robbery that took place around 5 p.m. on Dec. 23 on Willard Avenue. The victim, a juvenile male, told officers that he was robbed of money and a cellphone.
