4 Days, 6 Stolen Cars In Bloomfield: Police Update
The latest incidents in Bloomfield include a car theft at a bank, a vehicle left running, and a struggle with a would-be thief, police said.

BLOOMFIELD, NJ — A string of vehicle thefts and attempted thefts was reported in Bloomfield last week, police announced Thursday.
According to the Bloomfield Police Department, the following incidents were recently reported in the township.
May 25 – “Officers responded to 1072 Broad Street (Santander Bank) on report of a motor vehicle theft. The complainant left his vehicle parked in the rear parking lot while he was inside the bank. Upon returning 45 minutes later, he noticed the vehicle was missing. Surveillance showed a white Range Rover pull behind the complainant’s vehicle. An unknown male exited the Range Rover, entered the complainant’s vehicle and fled the lot. The vehicle, a gray 2021 Lexus ES3, was entered into NCIC as stolen. This incident is under investigation.”

May 25 – “Officers responded to the 100 block of Berkeley Avenue on report of an attempted motor vehicle theft. A resident went out to his vehicle, a 2021 Hyundai Sonata, at approximately 8 p.m. and observed the rear passenger side door open. The resident then noticed the steering wheel column was broken and the wires were exposed. This incident is under investigation.”
May 27 – “Officers responded to the 200 block of Montgomery Street on report of a motor vehicle theft. A resident parked her vehicle, a 2011 Hyundai, on the street at 10 a.m. and at approximately 11:30 a.m. she noticed it was missing. While officers were on the scene, the resident received a call from her fiancé who located the vehicle at Montgomery Street and JFK Drive. The vehicle had a broken passenger side window, and the ignition assembly was missing. This incident is under investigation.”

May 27 – “Officers responded to the 400 block of Abington Avenue on report of a motor vehicle theft. A resident parked her vehicle in her driveway and upon returning to it the following morning, she noticed it was missing. The vehicle, a white 2016 Kia Forte, was entered into NCIC as stolen. This incident is under investigation.”
May 28 – “Officers responded to the area of Belleville Avenue on report of a motor vehicle theft. The complainant left her vehicle running in the parking lot of the building and when she returned, the vehicle was missing. The vehicle, a gray 2021 BMW X7, was entered into NCIC as stolen. This incident is under investigation.”
May 28 – “Officers responded to the 200 block of Franklin Street on report of a motor vehicle theft. A resident parked her vehicle on the street overnight and upon returning to it the following morning, she noticed it was missing. The vehicle, a gray 2020 Kia Forte, was entered into NCIC as stolen. This incident is under investigation.”
May 28 – “Officers responded to the area of Clinton Street on report of an attempted auto theft. A resident parked her vehicle, a 2021 Kia Seltos, on the street overnight and upon returning to it the following evening, she noticed that the steering column was tampered with. This incident is under investigation.”
May 28 – “Officers responded to the 200 block of Franklin Street on report of an attempted motor vehicle theft. A resident was exiting his residence and noticed his head lights were on and his driver side door was opened. He then noticed that the vehicle ignition was tampered with. The resident then observed a male with his face covered get into the driver’s seat of his vehicle and attempt to start it by tampering with the ignition. The resident approached the suspect and a physical altercation ensued. The suspect then fled the scene in a vehicle that was waiting for him. This incident is under investigation.”
