Airbags, Catalytic Converters Stolen In Bloomfield: Police

BLOOMFIELD, NJ — A wave of auto part thefts took place last week in Bloomfield, police said Wednesday.

The Bloomfield Police Department released the following statements about each theft, noting that they took place on Friday.

AIR BAGS – Officers responded to numerous locations on multiple reports of theft of air bags. Incidents occurred on Broad Street, Essex Avenue, Urma Place and Winding Lane. In all, 10 incidents were reported. All incidents occurred in the same manner with suspects breaking one of the vehicles windows, entering the vehicle and removing the air bags. All of the vehicles were described as Honda CRVs. The incidents occurred between 2 and 3 a.m. These incidents are under investigation.

BERKELEY PLACE – Officers responded to Berkeley Place on report of a catalytic converter theft. The owner parked his vehicle on the street overnight. When he started his vehicle in the morning, he noticed someone removed his catalytic converter valued at $1,500. An investigation will continue.

AMPERE PARKWAY – Officers responded to the area of Ampere Parkway on report of a catalytic converter theft. The owner parked his vehicle on the street overnight. When he went to start his vehicle, he noticed that the catalytic converter was removed. The catalytic converter is valued at $1,500. This incident is under investigation.

HENRY STREET – A resident responded to the police desk to report a catalytic converter theft. The resident parked his vehicle overnight on the street in the area of Henry Street. When he started the vehicle in the morning, he noticed his catalytic converter was removed from the vehicle. This incident is under investigation.
