Alleged Bloomfield Squatter Used Neighbor’s Shower, Tried To Steal Electricity: Police

Bloomfield officers charged an alleged squatter with criminal trespass and burglary after he allegedly snuck into a Thomas Street home.

BLOOMFIELD, NJ — Bloomfield police charged an alleged squatter with criminal trespass and burglary after he snuck into a Thomas Street home, used its shower and attempted to steal electricity via an extension cord, authorities say.

According to the Bloomfield Police Department, the 20-year-old Glen Ridge man was illegally staying at a Thomas Street home when he allegedly gained entry into the adjacent house through its basement door.

He then used the home’s shower and utilities before running an extension cord back to his own illegally occupied residence, police said.

Bloomfield officers arrested the alleged squatter and charged him with criminal trespass and burglary; his bail was set at $25,000.
