BLOOMFIELD, NJ — Restoration work is nearing the finish line for a nearly century-old landmark in Bloomfield.
The township issued an update on the construction at the Bloomfield Children's Library at 90 Broad Street last week, noting that the work is expected to be "substantially complete" by the end of November.
Crews are currently focused on the roof, including adding detailed brickwork on the capstones and parapet walls. Restoration of the exterior walls and windows is expected to begin in about 30 days.
The township has implemented a dust control protocol in coordination with the project consultant, and has engaged an environmental consultant to sample materials prior to removal to confirm proper handling, the advisory said.
Township officials announced plans to move forward with renovations to the historic Bloomfield Children's Library last year. The to-do list included roof rehabilitation, window restoration, masonry and stone work, and woodwork and trim restoration. Other site improvements included removing some existing shrubs and trees near the library.
The library remains open, with modified access as needed to ensure safety and continuity of services.
"We are so excited to see this historic space receive the care and attention it deserves," library director Holly Belli previously said.
"These upgrades will not only protect the building's integrity, but also allow us to better serve the children and families who rely on this library as a hub for learning and imagination," Belli said.
